Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has found a new, quarantine-approved way to interact with her followers: Visit them on Nintendo's Animal Crossing.

It all began when reporter Aída Chávez broke the news on Thursday that Ocasio-Cortez had started playing the Nintendo Switch game, which has become a staple of many a stay-at-home routine. Shortly after, AOC tweeted that she wanted to visit random people's islands and opened up her DMs for exactly four minutes to receive Dodo codes, the key to accessing another person's island.

Ok I am going to open my DMs for exactly 4 minutes for Dodo code submission. Why 4? Who knows. Here we go! pic.twitter.com/ZWgivtpILS

'Honestly never in my life did I think opening my DMs would grant me faith in humanity but the brief window actually resulted in a lot of these messages being very wholesome,' she tweeted. 'People are asking for surprise visits to their spouse’s islands!! This is the love everyone deserves'

In her first visit, AOC said she exchanged fruit, took pictures, and signed a bulletin note on an island belonging to a family of three. The Washington Post later reported that the family who owned the island actually used to live in her congressional district.

Update 2: first ever House call (get it?😉) in the books!

It was so sweet. Island belonged to a family of three. We exchanged fruit, took pictures, and I signed a bulletin note using my touch screen.

I was floored by how fast they typed and they taught me about the app. 🥰 pic.twitter.com/KJsI6Gjh9p

AOC ended up opening her DMs one more time Thursday night for even more home visits. On one island she reportedly rocked out on the guitar and gifted some pears. And, yes, the congresswoman confirmed that she is in fact wearing a hand-drawn campaign shirt that says 'AOC' on it.

Um, this is amazing. @AOC played a mean guitar solo on my freshly decorated island. :D

Thanks again for visiting! And pears! pic.twitter.com/bOyz0tUvfE

Though the window seems to be closed for submitting your Dodo codes, one Twitter user had the brilliant suggestion to just go ahead and host the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Animal Crossing, which AOC seconded.

Maybe next time she can band together with her followers to take on 'capitalist crook' Tom Nook?

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told her Twitter followers on Thursday that she is indeed playing the game, which many Americans have embraced while socially isolating at home amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Ocasio-Cortez is even making what she is calling 'House calls' --- a cheeky nod to her job in the US House of Representatives -- where she can virtually visit other players of the game over the internet.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic started, 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' has exploded in popularity. In a world turned upside down, the game offers relaxing tasks centered around fishing, shaking trees for fruit, and chatting with other villagers. Players create an avatar who lives on a formerly deserted island that is slowly populated by anthropomorphic animal neighbors, and much of the game surrounds how to develop the new neighborhood -- and users can visit other players' islands online to exchange goods or just say 'hello.'

Ocasio-Cortez began her Animal Crossing 'House calls' on Thursday night, starting with a family of three.

This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez has connected with her constituents by creatively using social media. After rising to national prominence by unseating New York Rep. Joe Crowley, then a top Democrat in House leadership, she quickly amassed a massive social media following. Just days after being sworn into Congress, she led a discussion on social media use with her fellow Democrats in Congress. In 2018, she made history by becoming the first member of Congress to take questions from the electorate while assembling IKEA furniture live on Instagram.
